Maintain The Beauty of Your Wood Furniture Investment
Do not place your furniture in direct sunlight and/or a damp area.
Arrange your furniture so it is not placed in front of or over heating or air conditioning vents.
Avoid placing furniture directly under windows.
Be careful not to place rubber or plastic materials on your furniture. Certain rubber or plastics have ingredients that may react with and damage the finish.
Occasionally rotate accessories so they do not remain in the same spot for extended periods.
Avoid creating marks on your furniture by placing a piece of felt, cloth or leather under accessories.
Lift objects from the top surface rather than dragging them across the finish when moving them.
Use a protective pad when using your furniture as a writing surface.
Clean Water and Other Spills Quickly
Water left over a prolonged period of time will cause white spots in the finish.
Alcohol, perfume, after-shave and nail polish remover can cause severe damage to the finish.
Cleaning and Care of Wood Furniture
Dust frequently with a clean, dry, lint-free cloth.
To remove accumulated dust or old furniture wax build-up, use a soft, lintfree cloth which has been dampened in a solution of mild detergent and warm water. Dry thoroughly using a clean, lint-free cloth and then apply furniture polish, wiping it in the direction of the wood grain.
We recommend that furniture be polished every six months.
We recommend polishes that do NOT contain silicone or wax or distillates. The Guardsman Products available at our store are specially made for wood furntiture and will give your wood lasting beauty for many, many years.
Maintain The Beauty of Your Upholstered Furniture Investment
There are several steps you can take to preserve your upholstered furniture. The first is to clean the furniture on a weekly basis vacuuming both the cushions and under them. To prevent upholstery from becoming wrinkled or flattened you should fluff and rotate the cushions regularly to help slow wear and to ensure that any wear is uniform.
Keep upholstered items out of direct sunlight when possible to avoid fading. If the upholstery is near a window then use window treatments (curtains or blinds) to keep the sun's damaging rays off your furniture. It is also important to keep your upholstery away from extreme heat or cold. Heat is especially bad for upholstery because it causes the fabric to become brittle and more prone to wear and tear. Extreme humidity or dryness can also be harmful to fabrics because of the damage it can do to the upholstery.
One of the best ways to take care of your upholstered furniture is to purchase a protection plan, like our Guardsman 5 Year Fabric Warranty. It picks up where the manufacturer's warranty leaves off. Manufacturers warranty against defects, but a protection plan can help you take care of accidental stains and damage. Stains caused by food, pets, cosmetics or ink are covered for cleaning when a plan is purchased. Some exclusions may apply, but a protection plan will help ensure the value of your investment nonetheless.
